Philosophy
Bearing & Field values observation over accumulation and understanding over simply passing through. Places are approached not as boxes to check, but as landscapes to notice, return to, and understand more deeply.
The purpose is not necessarily to see more places, but to see with greater attention.
The Notebook
A notebook does not replace experience. It preserves what would otherwise be forgotten.
Bearing & Field was created from the belief that observation deserves a place beyond memory and beyond the photograph. Some things are understood only in returning, and some observations reveal themselves over time.
Some places reward returning. Some observations only reveal themselves later.
Bearing & Field is written and photographed by one explorer whose observations have been gathered over years of returning to places with a camera, a notebook, and a growing appreciation for paying attention.
Curiosity may have been the spark.
Observation may be the practice.
Return may be the rhythm.
And perhaps discovery is the reward.
