Tárcoles Bridge — Crocodile Territory
From above, the river seems peaceful until the shapes along the bank begin to resolve into something else.
Setting
Tarcoles, Costa Rica
Pacific Coast
Summer afternoon
9.6249° N, -84.2533° W

Observation
A large metal bridge spans over the winding Tarcoles River. Below, dozens of motionless crocodiles bask on a muddy river bed.
It is hot and humid with only an occasional breeze.
Without the passing cars, the bridge would be quiet.
Moment
The concrete pathways alongside the road are narrow. Cars pass in both directions over the bridge. 30-40’ below, the crocodiles remain still. They hold their pose without shifting, sometimes appearing to be nothing more than a log settled in the mud.
Visitors pause along the walkway, leaning slightly over the protective railing to get a glimpse. The distance between the bridge and the animals below shortens once you stop walking
Reflection
Movement above. Stillness below. Separation is structural, not natural.
